I have learnt about the importance of relationships. Relationships are powerful in mediating change and transforming systems that are trauma informed and responsive to the needs of infants, children, young people and their families. Driving change is dependent on relationships that exude respect, honesty, transparency and vulnerability. Relationships in the child welfare sector, where there is significant trauma, must create space for safety.   As stated by Brene Brown:

I define connection as the energy that exists between people when they feel seen, heard, and valued; when they can give and receive without judgment; and when they derive sustenance and strength from the relationship“.

Establishing professional alliances built on pillars of safety and trust build capacity, and strengthen the workforce and service system so that infants, children, young people and their families are visible, safe and well.
